Women in STEM Society Update

Thanks to all of you who attended our Women in STEM Networking Lunch yesterday.

It was great to discuss what students want to see from the society for 2023/24.

We will be holding another meeting over the next couple of weeks with those interested in being a part of the society’s committee and submit a proposal to the DSU for the society to be more official.

Here are just a few of the things our students wanted to see from the society:

  • Sessions of how to fit in the industry as a woman
  • Opportunities similar women and share experiences
  • A platform to be advocates of change for women in tech
  • Talks from women in industry – career journeys
  • Workshops and demos – industry focused
  • Alumni and placement student – journey talks
  • Career opportunities or experience for women
  • Panel discussions
  • Create a network – support network of likeminded people
  • Field trips
  • Debates
  • Educating others on allyship and bias
  • Skills sessions – employability and beyond
  • Coding sessions – social code
  • Social events
  • A sense of community and belonging

We hope to work closely with the society to support them in achieving their expectations of the society.

We hope the Women in STEM Society will empower everyone that joins it!
